147 Preakness Stakes

What goes into making a Preakness success?

Ever heard of the Triple Crown? The penultimate achievement in professional horse racing – the oldest sport in America – one horse and jockey pairing must win the three most prestigious events in just one season. The Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes are two of the three, with our very own Preakness Stakes acting as the third. The Preakness Stakes take place at the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, the second oldest horse race track in the United States. This track is administered by the Maryland Jockey Club, who chose OakLawn Landscaping to manage the landscape of the 2022 Preakness Stakes. Instructed to “knock their socks off”, OakLawn beat out Ruppert Landscape and LandCare in the bid process, both national landscaping vendors.

Effort Equals A One Day Historic Event

This is the largest flower installation in the state of Maryland, requiring multiple crews daily over a period of six weeks. A project of this scale necessitated constant communication and unprecedented attention to detail, ensuring that everything was in prime condition for race day. With over 11,000 plants installed, OakLawn managed the constant delivery of material from Walnut Springs, RLO Contractors, and SiteOne Landscape Supply. With the supply chain issues of 2022 this was no small feat, and a testament to the commitment of OakLawn to get the job done. Moving forward the Maryland Jockey Club has entrusted OakLawn with the landscape maintenance of Laurel Park, where the Pimlico Race Course is located.
