What goes into making a Preakness success?
Ever heard of the Triple Crown? The penultimate achievement in professional horse racing – the oldest sport in America – one horse and jockey pairing must win the three most prestigious events in just one season. The Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes are two of the three, with our very own Preakness Stakes acting as the Second Jewel in the Triple Crown. The Preakness Stakes takes place at the Pimlico Racecourse in Baltimore, the second oldest horse racetrack in the United States. This track is administered by the Maryland Jockey Club, which chose OakLawn Landscaping to manage the landscape of the 2022 Preakness Stakes. Instructed to “knock their socks off”, OakLawn beat out reputable national landscaping vendors, Ruppert Landscape, and LandCare in the bid process.

Effort Equals A One Day Historic Event
This is the largest flower installation in the state of Maryland, requiring multiple crews daily over a period of six weeks. A project of this scale necessitated constant communication and unprecedented attention to detail, ensuring that everything was in prime condition for race day. With over 11,000 plants installed, OakLawn managed the constant delivery of material from Walnut Springs, RLO Contractors, and SiteOne Landscape Supply. With the supply chain issues of 2022, this was no small feat, strong vendor relationships, and a testament to the commitment of OakLawn to get the job done. Moving forward the Maryland Jockey Club also has entrusted OakLawn with the landscape maintenance and landscape enhancements of Laurel Park as well.
